Frequently Asked Questions about the church app eKlecia®
Welcome to our help section! Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about the eKlecia® app. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us via the contact form.
General
What is eKlecia®? +
eKlecia® is an app that contains a collection of sacred organ music from the Gotteslob (GL) and the Evangelisches Gesangbuch (EG). At the touch of a button, genuine organ music sounds – for example in your service, at a devotion, or during a choir rehearsal. All you need is our app, a device (smartphone, tablet, etc.) and a loudspeaker. More and more parishes, care homes, hospitals and funeral homes count among our valued customers.
Who is eKlecia® intended for? +
For everyone who needs church music but no longer has an organist available: small parishes, care and retirement homes, hospitals and clinical chaplaincy, funeral services and church weddings. Small rural parishes in particular, which cannot find a successor for the organ bench, have come to the right place – eKlecia® steps in reliably, without any intention of replacing an organist.
Installation & Technology
How do I install the app? +
eKlecia® is a native app for iPhone/iPad and Android – you download it free of charge, just like any other app, from the App Store (Apple) or on Google Play. Once you open it, simply start the free trial and you're ready to go. You'll find everything about the download on our app page.
What are the technical requirements for eKlecia®? +
eKlecia® runs on almost any current smartphone and tablet. Specifically, you need a device with Android 7 or later (available since 2016) or an iPhone or iPad with iOS 14 or later — in other words, practically every device from recent years. In terms of storage, a few hundred megabytes should be free — almost all of it for the high-quality organ sounds we recorded on real pipe organs; the app itself is small. On modern devices that is very little — a single short video in good quality usually takes up considerably more. If you're unsure whether your device is suitable, simply give us a call — we'll check it together with you in two minutes.
I don't have a device. +
eKlecia® runs on almost any smartphone or tablet – so in most cases a suitable device is already at hand. Should that not be the case in an individual instance, we can arrange a pre-configured tablet upon conclusion of a subscription, with the app already set up. This is the exception; simply get in touch with us and we will find the simplest solution.
I can't play eKlecia®. +
First check the volume and – if you're playing through a speaker – the Bluetooth connection. If that doesn't help, try: restart the app, log out and back in, close other apps, or reinstall the app from the App Store or Google Play. An internet connection is needed for the initial download of the songs; after that eKlecia® also plays offline. If there is still no sound, give us a call — we're personally there for you and will find the cause together.
I want to switch devices. Can I reinstall the app? +
Yes – simply download the app on the new device and log in with your access details. You can add any number of users and devices and also use them in parallel; thanks to cloud sync, your song lists and presets are immediately available again.
Sound in the Church Space
How is the music from the app played in our church? +
The app plays through a perfectly ordinary loudspeaker. The easiest way to connect your device is via Bluetooth – this is the usual way today, absolutely stable and in very good quality. Those who prefer a cable can do that just as well. You do not need a mixing console or any special technical knowledge.
We don't have any loudspeakers in the church. What options are there? +
As a rule, a standard Bluetooth speaker is sufficient – the acoustics of the church space itself take care of the rest. This carries from the small chapel all the way to the full nave. And if you already have a sound system for the microphone and sermon, simply play directly into it: via a small Bluetooth receiver or a cable, both of which cost almost nothing these days. Should you ever need help choosing a speaker, we are happy to advise you in individual cases.
Operation During the Service
How do I quickly find the right song? +
Via the full-text search and several filters that can be combined freely: by song number, title, hymnal (Gotteslob or Evangelisches Gesangbuch), composer and – particularly handy – by occasion (e.g. wedding, funeral, harvest thanksgiving). This way you have the right song in seconds, even spontaneously during the service. Frequently used songs you can arrange in advance in your own song lists and call up with a single tap.
Can I choose whether a prelude is played? +
Yes. Before each song you decide whether the familiar prelude sounds or the song begins directly – exactly as it suits your service.
Which parameters of a song can I adjust? +
Pitch, tempo, registration or timbre, the number of verses, and whether a prelude is played. This way every song sounds just as your congregation is used to. All settings are stored centrally in the cloud and are retained when you switch devices.
Can I prepare the service in advance? +
Yes, in the app you can create your own song list and adjust it as you wish. During the service you tap the play button of the first song – after it ends, the player stops automatically and returns to the list. Simply press play again.
Do I need permanent internet access to use it? +
Yes and no. For the full app, an online connection is needed to provide updates and new songs. But: all songs that you add to your song list are also available offline – ideal for dead zones and for services without Wi-Fi.
Can I use eKlecia® on several devices at the same time? +
Yes, and without restriction. A single eKlecia® license permits installation and simultaneous use on any number of devices within your institution — the pastor's smartphone, the tablet in the sacristy, the laptop in the parish office, the devices of choir members or the sexton. Also across multiple locations: mother church, branch church, care home, cemetery chapel or home devotion. No device limits, no additional costs for further users, no streaming quotas.
Songs & Content
Which songs are included in eKlecia®? +
Over 1000 songs from the Gotteslob (GL) and the Evangelisches Gesangbuch (EG) – searchable by title, number, occasion and composer. You will find the complete list in our song list.
I can't find a song in the app, what can I do? +
No problem. Through the update function, we provide you with new songs without any fuss. Contact us with your song requests – we are happy to include them.
GEMA & Rights
Do I have to pay GEMA fees for eKlecia®? +
For an ordinary service, as a rule you do not need to do anything. We have taken care of the rights side for providing the recordings in the app – there is no effort for you here. Playing them during the service is, for parishes, usually already covered by the blanket agreements that your diocese or regional church has concluded with GEMA. Only for public, non-liturgical events (such as a concert) do you register the music with GEMA as usual. If you are unsure whether a framework agreement applies to your institution, we are happy to help you find the right point of contact.
Are we simply allowed to play the recordings during the service? +
Yes. eKlecia® provides you with authentic organ recordings for use in the service, devotion and celebration. Copyright-compliant use is governed by the existing agreements of your church – as a rule, the blanket agreement of your diocese or regional church with GEMA. The only thing not permitted is copying or passing on the recordings themselves.
Pricing, Trial & Contract
What does eKlecia® cost? +
39 € per month for your entire institution (plus VAT) – a flat price, not a "from". Everything is included: all songs from the Gotteslob and the Evangelisches Gesangbuch, any number of devices, no streaming or usage limits. The first four weeks you test free of charge and without obligation.
Can I try eKlecia®? +
Gladly. Contact us – we will arrange a free trial period of 4 weeks with you, without a contract and without a credit card.
How does payment work and which payment methods do I have? +
Straightforward and with no upfront payment: you first try eKlecia® free of charge and with no obligation for four weeks — only then does payment begin. Billing is conveniently by invoice, with VAT shown separately. We do not need a direct debit mandate or a credit card. What matters to us: the service first, the payment afterwards — so everything stays transparent and secure for you.
Can I cancel the subscription during the contract term? +
We look for the best possible solution in every situation. Simply get in touch with us – we do not pressure anyone over contractual matters.
How long does the contract run – and does it renew automatically? +
The term is 12 months. Beforehand, you test eKlecia® for four weeks free of charge – longer on request; it is important to us that you are truly convinced before a subscription begins. After that, the contract renews automatically for a further 12 months, unless it is cancelled by email up to 1 month before expiry.
Company & Data Protection
Why is eKlecia® a US company? +
EKLECIA LLC is registered in Wyoming/USA – this is a deliberate choice in favor of a lean, stable international holding company. In practical terms, this changes nothing about working with our customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland: our contacts are German-speaking, invoicing is EU-compliant with VAT shown, and all user data is processed on servers in Germany.
Where is my data stored? +
All personal data – login, song lists, presets – is hosted on servers in Germany. A transfer to the USA or other third countries does not take place in regular operation. This means the processing is subject to German and European data protection law (DSGVO, BDSG).
Is eKlecia® data protection compliant for church institutions? +
Yes. We meet the requirements that church data protection officers and dioceses place on cloud services: German server location and transparent data processing. For specific questions from your diocese, we are happy to provide a written data processing agreement (AVV).
